“The Snow That Never Falls”
(c) 2021 by Michael L. Utley

“The snow that never falls cannot assuage
The sorrow of the autumn’s grim defeat
There is no balm
For open wounds
No gilded cup
To slake the dying season’s thirst
No whispered words to quell the fear
Of failing heart
Forsaken soul
Abandoned hope
There is no honor in autumn’s demise
In absence of the snow that never falls…”

    1. Thanks, David. Yeah, it’s a strange feeling to be alone even when people surround us. That lonely path requires each of us to navigate it on our own, each step a choice, and sometimes no one can help us. The yearning, for me, is for peace and quiet (I’m an introvert x 10), so the lonely path isn’t as unbearable for me as it might be for others, but I still find myself longing for someone–anyone–in my life, just to have someone to talk to. Such is life, I suppose. (Yeah, I’m a lot of fun at a party! 🤣)

Thanks for stopping by and saying hello. 😊

  2. Repeating because, yeah 👍🏽
“The Snow That Never Falls” is the most poetic expression of superlative I’ve read today. All others have been beautiful but this one is deep and philosophical: of missing things and the hollowness those missed things leave us with. Wow. How well you did this. I especially loved the way you merged one stanza to the other. Effortlessly. You must read some amazing poetry, I’m sure. And the subtle rhyming and poignant repetition. Beautiful. Left me wishing it was I who wrote those lines. Thanks Mike. A standing ovation from me. 🙇🏽‍♀️
Now I lay me down to sleep. God bless us all.
