Joni Caggiano’s new poem “Will It Snow Again This August” is a must-read masterpiece

Hey, folks. Every now and then, I read a piece of poetry that is so startling, so profound, it stops me in my tracks. My good friend and award-winning writer Joni Caggiano–author of the blog Rum and Robots–has written a new piece that has remained lodged in my mind and heart for a few days now, and I want to share a link to it so you can experience it yourselves.

Joni isn’t afraid to speak out about sensitive, controversial topics, and for this she has my total and complete respect and admiration. Anyone who has read her book One Petal at a Time understands this author is a master poet with an uncanny ability to reach inside the hearts and souls of readers and leave an indelible mark. Her latest offering titled “Will It Snow Again This August” is one such piece. It is stunning in its artistic brilliance, and deeply, fundamentally moving in its subject matter and impact. And yes, I’m gushing over Joni and her peerless poetic skills—no one writes the way she does. Her writing is timeless and urgent and vitally important and needs to be experienced.

So, please take some time and visit her blog to read her poem:

Joni, thank you for using your magnificent voice to speak truth to power and to lift up those who have no voice. Would that we all were as courageous as you, my friend.

    1. Hi, Annette. I agree–it’s difficult to articulate the emotions I felt upon reading Joni’s poetry. She’s a master, and her imagery is so brutal and nearly paralyzing. Profound writing, indeed. Thank you so much for reading her work, my friend. Wishing you a good Friday. 😊

  1. Dearest Mike,

Thank you so deeply for your gracious words. It is hard not to be overwhelmed by such words about my work coming from you dear friend. The admiration I hold for your work and the exactitude found in each word you write can not be measured.

So allow me just to say how honored I am to read your words. As you and I have many commonalities in our childhoods I am always touched by the stalwartness of your character. You wield the brilliant ability to gift me the sense that I am not alone. I read your words and know that someone else knows how I once felt, the sorrows I have borne and the reminders every day. Sometimes it can be simply a budding flower that brings me to tears. All of us are a lifeline for each other. Thank you for being one for me.

    1. It’s my pleasure, Joni. Your writing is transcendent and always resonates deeply with me. I just had to share your work here. Your poetry comes from a place of profound empathy and truth, two things this world seems to lack these days. Your fearlessness is admirable and your artistic style is on a completely different level. Our similar childhoods have most definitely created a bond, and I’m grateful that such painful remembrances have resulted in a wonderful friendship. I’m a big fan of yours, Joni, and will always support you and your art.

Here’s wishing you a peaceful Friday, my friend. Sending you some sunny Colorado vibes. Give Scott a big hello for me, will you? 🌞

    1. So very true. It’s a frightening moment in history at this present time that seems way too close to repeating those unspeakable crimes against humanity. Thank you, Liz, for your compassion, my friend.

    1. Thanks, Peggy, and you’re right–Joni’s on another level when it comes to writing. She’s set the bar so high, I don’t think anyone will reach her level of sheer talent and brutal honesty, empathy and compassion. I’m glad I could share her poetry here and hopefully introduce Joni to a few new readers. She certainly deserves it.

Thanks as always for stopping by, my friend. Have a peaceful weekend.

  2. Thanks for sharing Joni’s work, Mike. We’ve lost track so thanks for heading me her way to read her poem that always leaves a mark on my heart. I also see I’ve been behind on your work as well. It only takes a day and then take a few off and it’s a snowball affect of absence, you know?! 😉
