“let us sift through summer’s solemn ashes
let us scavenge rusted hopes from twisted
hulks of yesterdays amid the swelter
and the din of frigid silence
as crows circle…”

    1. Thanks, David. There’s a bit of hidden irony in the line about milk and honey–I’m both lactose- and honey-intolerant! 😀 Oh well. I enjoyed writing this one. It had been a long time since I’d written anything other than haiku and senryu, and this one came out fairly easily. And I love the non-rhyming, rigid syllabic format (it’s probably my favorite form) as it has the feel of free verse but it also has a unique, orderly flow, as long as a meter structure is strictly adhered to. I can play with the syllable count per line and line per stanza beforehand and create a scaffolding for the poem, then go from there. Anyway, thanks for the nice comment and for stopping by. I appreciate it. 🙂

    1. Many thanks, Diana. I’m truly humbled and so delighted by your thoughtful comment. I love writing, but it’s always been so difficult for me because of other things I have to deal with in my life, so when I share my poetry, I’m never sure how it will be received. I put so much of my heart and soul into my creative endeavors. It’s means so much to me to know my words connect with people. You’ve been such a wonderful friend and ally, and there’s a measure of joy I feel when I receive such kind validation of my writing from you. A sincere and heart-felt thanks for your presence here, and for helping keep the dream alive. 🙂

    1. Thank you kindly. My winter muse has a rather dark personality, I suppose, but I enjoy dark imagery and melancholy themes. I truly appreciate your wonderful support. Many thanks for stopping by and reading. 🙂

    1. Thanks a bunch. I liked the imagery of the crows circling in the sky and it just seemed to make sense to return to that image at the end. I’m pleased that you enjoyed this one. Much appreciated! 🙂
