My Interview at Gobblers & Masticadores and Chewers Magazine

Hey, everyone. I have a bit of exiting news to share with you. Recently, I was interviewed by Manuela Timofte, editor of Gobblers & Masticadores, and this interview is now live. I want to thank Manuela for this opportunity to share a little of my writing philosophy and background with her readers. It’s incredibly humbling and quite an honor, and I truly appreciate this chance to connect with all of you in a different way. I hope you’ll enjoy the interview, which can be found by clicking this link. Also, an excerpt of this interview appears in Chewers Magazine and can be found at this link. Many thanks to Juan Re Crivello for including part of this interview at Chewers Magazine.

Once again, thank you Manuela and Juan for your kindness And thanks to all of you who have taken the time to walk with me on this journey and read my poetry and essays over the past two-and-a-half years here on my blog as well as at Masticadores. I couldn’t ask for better traveling companions. I’m truly grateful to all of you.

Also, don’t forget to follow and subscribe to Gobblers & Masticadores, where you’ll find some wonderful writing and plenty of food for thought.

    1. Thanks a bunch, Friedrich! It was a fun experience. I love talking about writing and love learning about how others create. And that photo…! I promise, I’m smiling! 😁 I really dislike having my photo taken, which is why I don’t display it on my blog. Gotta keep up that aura of mystique, right? 😊

      1. You are welcome! I know what you mean when you don’t like photos of yourself. I’ve always avoided cameras. But if you follow each other on, for example, these blogs, a certain familiarity develops over time and if you can combine that with a photo of the writer, that certainly helps.

    2. I agree wholeheartedly. I had to provide a photo for my author’s bio when I was first published at Masticadores and thought, “Oh boy…” I managed to do a selfie with my webcam (both of my cameras had dead batteries) and sort of hoped no one would notice. The most recent photo I had of myself was from 2005, and although it was still me, it was a much younger me, not truly representative of my current age. At any rate, now you know what I look like. 📷😊

      1. Morning Mikey. I’ve been in a funk most of the week. Work has been killing my writing mojo. Finally catching up. Your writing is top tier my friend. Or should that be court side seats 🤔. 😂 You know what I’m getting at.
Love your work bro. I hope the creative energy is flowing today. 👏👏🙏

    2. I’ll take “Courtside Seats” for $100, Nigel. 😂 Thanks, my friend. I hope you get your writing mojo back posthaste. I know what it’s like. I’m feeling that writing itch very intensely these past few days, and that’s a good thing. I’ve been wandering in this fallow field for months now, so I hope that longed-for explosion of words occurs soon. Hang in there, amigo. 😊

      1. Thank you bro. I’ve been journaling, just to keep the mind active. And I have some stuff lined up for Lack History Month..think that also adds to the funk. But I’ll press on. You guys keep me motivated. 💪💪

    1. Thanks so much, Xenia. It was a fun experience. I can ramble on about writing all day long and never tire of it. It was also a strange experience since I tend to avoid drawing attention to myself, and I kept thinking, “Why would anyone want to interview me?” 😂 Overall, it’s just a humbling and wonderful feeling. I appreciate your kindness and support as always. Thanks for visiting. 😊

  2. Loved the interview, Mike. Your answers were thoughtful, deep, and extremely interesting. Like your poetry and photography, you didn’t just simply answer, you also brought a deeper reflection on the nature of life and art. Thank you.

    1. You’re so kind, Iseult. I’m happy to know you liked the interview. I loved the questions, and I can talk about writing all day, so it was a lot of fun. I tend to ramble, too, when I get going and find it impossible to compose a short answer. However, I’m fascinated with learning about how other writers think, so sharing a bit of my own background and thought processes seemed fitting.

Thanks a bunch for always being so supportive. It’s always a delight to see you stop by and I appreciate your thoughtful insights so much.  😊

    1. Thank you kindly. Time seems to have flown by so quickly, that’s for sure. Heck, I recall those first two months of my blog, writing those essays no one read because no one knew about them, wondering if I should just throw in the towel in frustration. Seriously, I was going to pack it in, but I reminded myself I had paid for a year’s subscription to WP so maybe I’d just post some of my old poetry since no one would read it anyway. I’m glad I didn’t give up. I never would have come across the most amazing people imaginable had I turned my back on my blog back then. 😊

Thanks for all your support. You’ve been such an inspiration to me, and I appreciate your kindness and your presence here. People like you make WP a wonderful place. 😊

    1. Thanks so much, Kirsten. I remember reading your Masticadores interview several months ago and marveling at your writing background and philosophes in your early years and how they fueled your rise to become the incredible writer you are now. I recall thinking how cool it would feel to be interviewed like that, and on the heels of that thought my mind said, “Don’t be silly, dude, no one would ever want to interview you, ya weirdo!” (I’m paraphrasing my own mind here!) I’ll have you know, however, that this is actually my second interview–I was interviewed on the local radio station after my final basketball game during my senior year of high school. The radio announcer asked how it felt to score my grand total of FOUR POINTS (!) and I mumbled something like, “Uh…I didn’t think I’d make the shots…” 😂🏀 That “interview” (and I use the term loosely) comprised my fifteen seconds of fame up to that point. Oh, and it was during that game, apparently, that I contracted meningitis, and thus began my journey into deafness. So, there’s that, too. 🙄

Anyhoo, you’ve always been so kind to me and so fun to talk to. Thanks so much for always being so supportive, my talented friend I truly appreciate you. 😊

      1. Aww, thank you, Mike! That’s awesome your first interview was on the radio, I bet that was exciting. Basketball is the best. I can’t play to save my life, haha, but I was in cheer for a while.

It’s crazy where life takes us. I’m happy you’re here and able to share your words with the world. Thank you for your support as well!
