“The Footbridge”
(c) 2021 by Michael L. Utley

“That derelict footbridge
Has finally failed
Stranding us on
Opposite shores
Of the abyss
Words
Like rotted planks
Litter the gorge
Below
Desires and dreams
Dashed
Upon indifferent rocks
Silence is all
I hear from you…”

    1. Thanks, David. I don’t know if you recall, but we did a Poetry Partners collaboration with this poem and one of yours. It was a couple of years ago, not long after you began that initiative. This piece finally got around to getting published on Masticadores, so that’s kind of cool.

Anyway, thank you for your kind words, good sir. I appreciate your poetic insights, and I’m always happy to see you stop to say hello. 😊

    1. Thanks a bunch. Yeah, it’s kind of cool that these older poems are seeing the light of day outside of my blog. And you’re right–sometimes multiple readings reveal things we missed before. I’m truly grateful for your kindness, my friend. It’s always a joy to have you visit. 😊

    1. How strange–your comments arrived just a short while ago and I quickly replied to them. WP is pretty wonky sometimes, and messages end up in the ether for a while. At least they finally showed up! 😊
