“Platitudes”

“the yoke of burdensome veracity
does not comport with those whose vapid souls
would congregate toward lies like moths to flame
and frenzy-feed on poison from the troughs
of those who wish to lead all men astray

thus in the end your heaven’s impotence
could not redeem this unabating hell
and all your pithless ersatz platitudes
lay shattered in inconsequential heaps
the dross of feckless minds and futile means

and though you crow
This truth I know!
as you insist
you ken the gist
of edicts straight
from heaven’s gate
your craven heart
betrays you…”

    1. Thank you kindly. You know, I’d never read “Ozymandias” until you mentioned it here (I darted off to Poetry Foundation’s website to check it out) and it really left an impact on me. I can only hope the blight and bluster of the particular modern-day Ozymandias mentioned in my poem is rendered impotent and soon buried ‘neath the sands of time as well (along with his orange spray tan and golden toilet). 😊

    1. Thanks, Cindy. This one is intense, for sure. I felt the need to speak out against the chaos that’s threatening this country. I’m just a guy who likes to write, but hopefully words have power and can change lives, you know? Thanks for your constant support, my friend. 😊
