“It’s Not Lost”

“It’s not lost on me
How this coral-tinctured eve
Tempers morning’s joy
With sadness and coos of doves
Grieve dying light’s somber end

It’s not lost on me that I
Never got to bid farewell
As sun languishes
On melancholy verge of
Day’s bitter demise…”

  2. A very moving piece, Mike. I thought of how much things I could’ve done differently to salvage certain relationships in my life. But life doesn’t always give us second chances, does it? Blessing my brother. 🙏

    1. Thanks, Nigel. Second-guessing…Monday morning quarterbacking…we punish ourselves after the fact, and much of the time we’re not at fault, but it hurts just the same when things end. I would love to have a bunch of do-overs, you know?

    2. The season’s first snow appeared October 30–just a skiff–and melted quickly. Since then, it’s snowed a couple of times but nothing has stuck, although the nearby mountains have snow now. I sort of dread snow, but that’s likely due to growing up on a farm and all those long, treacherous 50-mile round-trip drives to and from school on icy roads during the winters. I don’t ski or snowboard or ice skate, and haven’t built a snowman in (checks watch) at least a few years! (Frosty hates me.,,) 😂☃️

      Do you get much (or any) snow in your neck o’ the woods?

  9. When we first bought the property in southern Virginia, we got a fair amount of snow. Enough to sled on and plow. 😂 But the past few years we’ve gotten much less. A few dustings, but we seem to get more ice storms than snow.

    I actually lived in Erie, Pennsylvania for several years growing up and had more than enough snow to last me!

    1. Out of curiosity, I just checked to see Erie, PA’s annual snowfall. On average, around 100 inches of snowfall each year and roughly 43 inches total precipitation. My current area in southwest CO receives an average of 40 inches of snowfall annually, and around 13 inches of precipitation yearly. The farm where I was raised (an hour from here) gets about 10 inches total precipitation each year. Arid describe this area pretty well. But like you, recent years have seen much less snow and overall precipitation, as well as hotter temperatures. I think I prefer to watch snow fall from inside the house, with a mug o’ hot chocolate… 😊☕
