“A Few Haiku (11)” published at Gobblers by Masticadores

Hi, friends. Just a note to announce the eleventh installment of my short haiku/senryu collections titled “A Few Haiku (11)” is now available at Gobblers by Masticadores. These small collections consist of six haiku and/or senryu. As always, many thanks to Editor Manuela Timofte for publishing this mini-collection. Here’s hoping these little ones appeal to you.

(#61)

Earth, sea and sky have
Tales to tell; be patient
For they speak slowly

…..

(#62)

I attain wisdom
Not from church or pagoda
But from woods and streams

…..

(#63)

When winter wind blows
All pretense is torn away
Bares my soul to all

    1. I definitely agree with you here. There is still beauty in this world, but sometimes we need to seek it out in hidden places, or even right in plain sight. Sometimes I think my love for nature is the only thing holding me together and keeping me here on this earth. I’m glad these little ones spoke to you. Thanks so much for your kind words. 😊

    1. Thanks, Jeff. There’s nothing quite like a stream in the woods, eh? I used this one as the basis for a longer poem called “Wisdom” which I see you’ve already read. I went through my haiku/senryu collection a while back and found several I felt could be kernels for larger poems, and this was one of them. Glad to know you enjoyed this one. Hope your week is going well and you’re keeping warm. 😊

    1. Thanks, David. I like to think this, too. It’s so peaceful when I’m able to get in that space where the words flow, and these little ones are among my favorite form of both meditation and creation. I’m super-happy to know you enjoyed these. It means a lot to me. *tips cap* 😊

    1. Thanks, Kirsten. If there’s one thing that gives me even the slightest sliver of hope in this dark world, it’s nature and the promise that it will outlast all of us and eventually return this world to a pristine state. I only wish I could see it when it happens.

Also, one minor inspiration for #61 was Tolkien’s Ents. Treebeard tells about Ent Moots–Ent council meetings that span several days because Ents think and speak so slowly. Gotta love Tolkien, eh? 😊🌳

I love the Haiku,My dear friend. I like the connections to the natural world, especially the gentle patience of nature.

You are so talented 😍. God blessing 🙏!

    1. About ten months ago, I went through all of my haiku/senryu to see which ones might lend themselves to expansion into longer poems in the hopes of somehow overcoming a months-long period of writer’s block. #62 (written in 2021) stood out to me and begged to be unleashed from its short-form bonds. It just seemed to flow once I gave it free-will to be what it wanted to be, if that makes any sense. I’ve written several longer poems based on my haiku/senryu, and there are dozens more on my list that I hope to extend into longer works. This “haiku trick” is what broke my writer’s block last March; I hope it will work again very soon. 😊
