    1. Many thanks, Maggie. I’m super-glad you liked this image. Feels like it was only yesterday when I made it and I can still recall the warmth of the sandstone and the scent of sage. Have a good Sunday. 😊

  1. Ah, that’s a great shot, Mike. I’m in love with that Utah red rock. My daughter just got to Dinosaur National Park yesterday for 2 – 3 weeks of fire prevention and to be an on-call firefighter. I guess they are at high alert right now. She says it’s beautiful. I haven’t been to that park yet.

    1. Thanks, Jeff. I drove through Vernal, UT back in 1996 on my way home from a trip to MT, WY. SD and Alberta, CA but didn’t visit Dinosaur National Monument due to lack of time. Always wanted to. I mean, I’m not sure there was a kid who loved dinosaurs more than I did growing up (for a while, I had aspirations of becoming a paleontologist). I hope your daughter is able to do some exploring there, and if she sends you photos, be sure to share them on your blog (I’d be there in a flash to check ’em out). I share your love of the red rock desert, of course. I haven’t been able to visit any of the nearby locations for a few years now (mobility issues–can’t drive anymore). I hope you’re able to do some exploring sometime. The Colorado Plateau is mind-blowing. Wishing your daughter success and safety in her training and work as a fire-fighter. This entire region is a tinderbox, for sure.

Flaming Gorge Reservoir (about 63 miles north of Vernal) is pretty impressive, too, especially during the magic hours of early morning/late afternoon/evening, when the sandstone just seems to glow. 😊
