“as gloaming eventide stalks dying light
to ambuscade the remnants of the day
diurnal requiems give way to night
how quick the gloom
eviscerates its prey

regretful skiffs of shame contuse the dusk
as shadows skulking on earth’s wretched rind
asphyxiate its palpitating husk
how cruel the dark
and all it renders blind…”

    1. Hello, dear faraway friend! Your prayers are such a kind gift. Thank you so much. I hope your weekend has been wonderful so far. It’s pleasant here in southwest Colorado at the moment (9:34 p.m., 69° F). I have a glass of fresh sweet tea, so I’m content. 😊 I’m always happy to see you stop by and say hello. I appreciate you, my friend, and always wish the best for you. I hope Sunday brings you happiness. 😊

  2. Mike, I had included my comment on Hotel but I am going to include it here as well. Such a brilliant piece and each word seared into my heart as only your work can do.

“Mike, one cannot read this piece and not feel each word in one’s very soul. This work is yet another gift of your way of questioning our very existence and lack of humanity. I am so grateful for the continued support of Masticadores magazine in their publications of such brilliant pieces which bring truth, thoughtful rumination, and awareness of what looms around us even in the daylight hours. Thank you Mich and all the editors from around the world and to Juan the creator of such an amazing space. Loved it Mike.”

    1. Joni, your kindness knows no bounds, my friend. Thank you for your generous words of support. To know someone of your artistic brilliance appreciates my writing is both humbling and so encouraging. I’m truly glad to know this piece hit the mark with you.

Wishing you a peaceful rest o’ the week, dear friend. 😊

      1. Mike, your writing is always a gift my friend. Your writing is fiercely principled but the tenderness of nature captured frequently in so many of your works always touches my heart. You have a peaceful rest of your week as well dear friend.
