    1. All the more reason for thanks and praise, my friend! A one-person labor of love must keep you very busy. I truly appreciate all you do for the writers, poets and photographers you so graciously publish. Gobblers feels like home to me and I’m indebted to you for your kindness, always. 😊🙏

    1. Thanks, Gary. It’s a place like no other, and it was startling how the mountains just seemed to erupt from the flatlands all in one cluster. I did some hiking among some of the lake trails and made some other images from that trip (some are here on my blog in the Nature Photography section). I would have preferred to camp properly–I’d even borrowed my buddy’s tent–but there were signs all over that forbade tents and soft-sided campers due to bears. So, I got very little sleep those two nights sitting upright behind the steering wheel of my Ford Ranger 4×4, but it was worth it waking up to the same view Ansel Adams photographed so long before. I hope you get a chance to do some rafting and photography there. 😊

    2. Thank you, sir. When I first got into photography in 1995 (after decades of wanting to but not having any gear), what really attracted me were the colors and forms. I mean, I can certainly appreciate good B&W photography, but to me, I was drawn to the vividness of purple columbines and azure skies, the arterial reds of amanita mushrooms and brilliant golds of fall aspens, the verdant greens of trees and ferns, you know? I was self-taught, using photo books by Galen Rowell and John Shaw and David Muench and Art Wolfe and others, and ended up going with Fuji Velvia for its color saturation and super-fine grain. That was years ago, and now most folks use digital, although many pro photographers still use Velvia for nature work. I’m unable to do any photography nowadays (health and financial issues) and I really miss being out there in nature. It was like losing a part of myself when I realized I could no longer be involved in nature photography. So, sharing my old images here brings back some amazing memories of my time spent in nature. I truly appreciate your kind words and I’m glad you find my images appealing. 😊

    3. I admire folks who do winter photography because I’m definitely not a winter person. I can only guess the preparation you must go through to shoot in frigid weather in your part of the country. I have only a handful of winter images, and I mainly remember my aluminum tripod feeling like it was at absolute zero and trying not to let my bare hands freeze to it! Fun times… 😀

      1. Yes, winter is hard on hands and equipment. batteries don’t last. I have shot film at -30 in a hard wind…it’s not worth it unless shooting lake superior or a freezing waterfall. Lens freezes, everything freezes. I keep my camera under my outer coat. The inner coat is too moist. zero to 20 degrees is perfect for shooting winter scenes with no wind. I have 10 extra batteries and the extended battery pac and they run out just as the perfect picture comes into view and your hands have no feeling….On the plus side, not many people do it.

  1. What a gorgeous shot, Mike. My husband just returned today and walked the Snake River with his buddy at a golf tournament! His pictures don’t give it the justice you gave it and deservers! 💓 I’ll jump over there now!
