  1. MY wife and I drove the Beartooth Pass a couple of weeks ago. What a beautiful area. Also beautiful was our drive from Yellowstone into Cody. We immediately began pricing homes in the area (expensive compared to our central pennsylvania home equity). Regardless, Red Lodge is now on the list for retirement destinations.

    1. Hey, Jeff. Yeah, Wyoming and Montana offer some of the most dramatic landscapes I’ve ever witnessed. On my trip up there in August ’96, I visited Yellowstone (all too briefly), spent a couple of nights at Schwabacher Landing in the Tetons, hiked around Devils Tower (twice, and nearly fell off a cliff), saw Mt. Rushmore in a quick jaunt into South Dakota, and spent some time at Glacier National Park (and popped into Alberta, CA for about ten minutes just because). Wyoming is gorgeous, but be prepared for some awful politics–it’s among the reddest, most regressive states in the country.

Will you be publishing any photos from your trip on your blog?

  2. I couldn’t leave a comment there, so I’m back! An amazing photo. I never would have guessed that you struggled with the shifting sky, light, and shadow. It’s mesmerizing. I’ve never been to Montana and now want to go to that very spot for that view. 😀

    1. Kindest thanks, Diana. You should definitely check out this area. The scenery is just crazy–an almost surreal sense of beauty and wonder. This particular part of the border was fascinating and so powerful, like another world, almost. I always wanted to return and spend much longer there to do more photography but never had the opportunity. I definitely recommend it if you ever get the chance to visit. It’s sort mind-blowing how ridiculously gorgeous nature can be, isn’t it? And Montana and Wyoming overflow with with stunning vistas. 😊
