“I’ve come at last to Anhedonia
that bleak and melancholy land
beyond the god-forsaken desert sand
far ‘cross the sea of memories
where sunlight fades and none has e’er returned…”

  1. Mike, this is so stunning. Your description is unbelievably compelling and makes one feel each stanza so powerfully. A slow elevation of the immense sense of loss, happiness, and hope through each descriptive phrase. I honestly can not pick a favorite stanza, as each one is filled with such intense anguish.

I think many of us have times when we fall into anhedonia through a deep depression caused by some sort of loss. I feel like I am walking along with you on the path you describe in this amazingly brilliant piece.

Thank you so much, Mich, for publishing Mike’s outstanding poem. Thank you, Mike, for sharing your rawness with us. It takes courage to write about our sorrow. Big hugs and love coming your way from both of us!

  2. A powerful and haunting piece. Dear Mike, your honesty cuts deep and gives voice to a silence many people carry but rarely name. Thank you for writing with such raw courage and clarity, my friend. Love it❤️

    1. Many thanks, Saima. It’s a place not located on any map, and it’s easy to lose ourselves there, but it’s possible to escape. Sometimes that means asking for directions to find our way back home. That can be so difficult for some of us, but there’s no shame in seeking a hand when we need lifted up again. 😊

      1. Dear Mike, you’ve described that hidden, unmapped place so beautifully — the ease of getting lost there, and the courage it takes to find our way back. Asking for a hand, leaning on others, is not weakness but an act of profound strength. Your words are a reminder that even in the most shadowed corners, guidance and care are never far away. 😊
