Hey, friends. The wonderfully kind Michelle Navajas, editor of Hotel by Masticadores, recently conducted an interview with me which is now live for anyone who might like to check it out. It’s such a humbling honor to be featured at Hotel in such an intimately personal manner. By nature I’m extremely introverted and quiet, but I felt completely comfortable with Michelle and her insightful questions, and I hope my responses shed a little light on what it’s like to be a deaf writer/photographer in a hearing world that so often turns a blind eye upon those with disabilities.
Thank you so much, Michelle, for this opportunity to share a little of myself with your readers at Hotel. Your warm and generous nature made this interview a lot of fun and allowed me to open up, and for that I’m deeply grateful.
You can read the entire interview here:
Also, please consider following and subscribing to Hotel by Masticadores, where you’ll discover a world of wonderfully imaginative and profound writing.
Thank you so much Mike for sharing.I am honored and blesed to have been granted this interview.

Thanks so much, Russ. Michelle’s questions made it easy to open up and share what makes me tick, you know? Yes, there’s a lot of darkness in there, in my past, and I’m still trying to figure out a lot of things. The act of creation is crucial in helping keep depression at bay. And I appreciate your prayers. My faith has taken a beating over the years, but it’s still there. Every little bit helps, my friend.
Thanks again for your kindness. I appreciate you and your wonderful support. 😊

Mike, the way you’ve channeled such profound challenges into beautiful poetry and photography is nothing short of remarkable. Your ability to find solace and expression in nature, even amidst silence, speaks volumes about your resilience and talent.
Your honesty and courage in sharing your struggles and triumphs make your work all the more meaningful. Thank you for reminding us of the power of art to heal, connect, and transform. Keep creating—your voice is truly powerful and needed.

Thanks, David. I always feel sort of funny talking about myself in these interviews, but Michelle’s questions made it easy to just let go and be myself. Honestly, I don’t know where I’d be without some sort of creative outlet. When the writer’s block hits (eight months at this point), it can get pretty dark in my life, but when it’s flowing, it’s so calming. I wish I were able to write daily as you do (and produce the consistent high level of quality of your work). I’ll have to settle for my writing-in-spurts approach, I suppose.
Your friendship and support mean so much to me. You left a comment on my blog in September 2021 regarding your father’s deafness, and since then you’ve been a constant presence in my personal blogosphere, and I thank you for that. I’m proud to call you a friend, David. 😊

Nice interview, Mike. Seems like so many of us on wordpress are oddballs of some sort. Tough life experiences make for the best stories. Thank you for making the most of it.

“Oddballs R Us,” right? 😊 You’re right, of course–our challenges make us who we are, and much of the time those challenges can make us stronger, more resilient, better people. I’m not very adept at dealing with “life stuff,” but I’m still around so I suppose that means something. Thanks for your kindness, Jeff. Much appreciated, my friend. 😊

A wonderful interview!🎉
I was happy to spot my favourite writers and poets in the influences you have mentioned. I am glad to live in a world where artists like you exist.
May your words and captured images reach far and wide, especially the souls who will find great solace in them.✨
