Hey, friends. The estimable and supremely talented Nigel Byng has graciously featured my poem “Wisdom” in his Exploring Poetry initiative on his blog Helping You To Succeed. This series explores the poetry of various authors as Nigel reads each piece and takes a deep-dive of analysis and interpretation to explore beyond the words. I am absolutely honored and humbled to have one of my poems included in this series. Nigel is an accomplished storyteller and poet, and his kindness and generosity are well-known in this WordPress writing community. He makes it his mission to lift up fellow writers, to shine the light on others, and to offer compassionate support and encouragement. He most definitely represents the very best of this community, and it’s my profound pleasure to call him my friend.

      1. I do my best with these poems. I am glad that I give myself a couple of weeks to sit with them. And you gave me 6 to choose from… I was tempted to draw lots 🤣
        But I had fun putting it together. I am contemplating just doing audio for the entire post in future.

  3. Love the poem and love Nigel’s insights into it. You have such a great gift of grabbing your reader’s hand and taking us with you to the place you inhabit. I am glad Nigel’s readers got a chance to go there, too. Well done, Mike.

    2. Thanks, Russ. This really means a lot to me. It’s a pleasure to have you and other readers accompany me to those poetic places. Nigel really nailed the analysis. I wish I could have heard his reading of the poem–from what I understand, he retains a bit of his Trinidadian accent. I was delighted when he asked to read one o my poems. I’m glad he chose this one–it’s one of my rare, hopeful, peaceful pieces.

    1. Kindest thanks, Beth. I was excited to see which poem Nigel would choose (I submitted six), and more than pleased with his analysis. I wish my ears worked so I could have listened to his reading, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the experience. Nigel’s a good dude and a real asset to our WP community. 😊

    1. Thanks, Carol. It was a delight to read Nigel’s analysis of my poem. He was spot-on. I wasn’t able to hear his reading, of course, but it’s all good. Nigel is consistently raising up his fellow creatives and promoting and encouraging others. I have so much respect for him. I’m glad you enjoyed the poem and Nigel’s presentation. I know of your profound love for nature and its restorative properties and protective embrace, so I’m so glad this one connected with you. Nigel’s invitation was received with both sincere gratitude and excitement. While I wasn’t able to listen to his reading, I was amazed by his analysis, which was spot-on and thoughtful. His Exploring Poetry initiative is so important in its purpose of lifting up and supporting his fellow poets and sharing their work with his readers.
